As the holiday season gets closer day-by-day, we start noticing the slight but prominent appearance of Christmas decorations around us. Red, green, and other warm tones dominate our homes from the inside out. We prepare ourselves for the big day, the big and grand tree, and of course, presents!
Family and friends reunite together to form a holiday like no other. A holiday filled with love, peace, and calm. We care for each other, talk to each other, and celebrate the wonderful privilege of being with our loved ones.
However, even after all of the love, we don’t give as much attention to the true stars. Our beloved Christmas trees! It’s always “Did you pick a Christmas tree yet?” “How did you decorate it?” “Is it real or fake?” but we never ask how it truly feels.
This is my twist on a fun interview with one of the most prominent Christmas symbols around the world. Please welcome in the Christmas tree!
Do you enjoy your profession?
“I do enjoy my profession, even though it is seasonal and demanding. Being a Christmas tree means I get to experience important moments in peopleโs lives. I quietly stand in the corner watching how children joyfully open presents and laugh with their loved ones. There is something satisfying about being chosen, decorated, and cared for, even if only for a short time. I feel useful, appreciated, and connected to human emotion in a simple, but also meaningful way.”
What is your favorite part about Christmas?
“My favorite part about Christmas is the atmosphere that surrounds it. I love the warmth of glowing lights, the familiar music playing again each year, and the way people seem softer and more patient. Families gather around me without realizing it, sharing stories and laughter. I enjoy being part of a tradition which connects people despite their past disagreements. Those quiet evenings, when everything feels calm and intentional, are when I feel most fulfilled.”
What is your least favorite part about Christmas?
“My least favorite part about Christmas is the pressure to be perfect. I am always judged on if I’m tall enough, green enough, flashy enough. I never get a real break. I also dislike knowing that my role ends abruptly once the season is over. Being thrown away and stashed so quickly after all those beautiful moments is such a weird shock. The rush, the mess, and the inevitable ending reminds me that joy can sometimes be temporary and disappear very suddenly.“
If you could be any other Christmas ornament what would you be?
“If I could be any other Christmas ornament, I would be mistletoe. I like the idea of encouraging connection rather than decoration. Mistletoes make people come closer and experience one of the most beautiful emotions of all, love. It is simple, symbolic, and rooted in tradition without being flashy. I would enjoy quietly hanging above doorways, watching people nervously mumble beneath me, knowing I helped spark affection, joy, and shared memories during the season.”
There you have it! While rather unexpected, a Christmas tree sees so much more than you think. Now, a question for you, reader! If you could be any Christmas ornament, what would you be? Think about it well, and of course, merry Christmas.
