Year 11, the run-up for the rigorous IB program. The year where the paths to our lives get more and more clear. What awaits in this grade that everyone is so curious or even afraid of? Well you’re about to find out!
On January 7th, 2026, students of the La Grande Boissiรจre campus were presented with the option to pick 5 subjects (Offered in English, French or bilingual) going into the next school year. These subjects include: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Sports Science, Computer Science, Economics, Geography, History, Philosophy, Politics, Art and Design, Music, Drama, German (Deutsch), Spanish (Espaรฑol), and Italian (Italiano). With the addition of 4 mandatory subjects: English, French (Franรงais), Mathematics and Physical Education.
With such a vast list to choose from, it must’ve been difficult for Year 10 students deciding which to select. Keeping in mind that the deadline for submission is the 20th of February. Which subjects did the hard-working students of LGB pick so far? Let’s take a look!
Which subjects did you choose for the upcoming year?
“Economics, Sports Science, Biology, History, and Drama”.
“Economics, Philosophy, Computer Science, Physics, and Chemistry. I took Economics because I want to do business or finance. Philosophy because I think it’s useful to learn how to think, ask yourself questions, spot patterns, etc. Computer science because we really need to know how tech [Technology] works at its base and I think it’s interesting. Physics because it’s applied maths and it’s the only science I enjoy. Finally, chemistry because I have to.”
“History, Politics, Economics, Computer Science, and Philosophy.”
“Philosophy, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, and Computer science. I’m taking those classes because I want to work in animal conservation – therefore biology and chemistry are necessary. We’re also entering a world where technology is developing at extremely fast rates meaning that I need to stay up-to-date and be able to code (Apps, websites, etc.) Lastly, I want to take philosophy because I know that it can’t really be replaced by AI since it’s all opinion-based and plus I want to be able to debate and communicate my thoughts correctly.”
“Politics, Economics, Spanish, Chemistry, and Physics.”
There you have it. Despite the big list, the students of LGB found a way! A diverse campus, as the results show, with many diverse and bright futures. Let’s hope the subjects they chose will meet their expectations and build them to be excellent in whatever field they choose to pursue.
If you’re a year 10 student reading, then this is about you. Yes, you! Your future is being decided right now, so pick the right choices. Don’t stress, however. Do what you want to do, do what fulfills you, even if it forces you to steer away from the crowd.
