The Best Lunch Spots for Takeout During Lockdown

With the current regulations, it’s harder to know where to go out for lunch. The following article, based off of recommendations from students, will sort through various restaurants close to school. All of the restaurants listed below offer takeout options.

To start off with, two places situated very close to campus are Mams and Dieci. They are both within walking distance of school, so you don’t have to take the tram. To preorder Mams food, you simply have to visit their website, select what you would like to eat, pick any time and then pay with a card. If you would rather pay in cash, you can order on the spot with a waiting time that is typically around 10-15mn. They have a selection of freshly prepared bowls or offer sandwiches if you’re looking for a smaller bite to eat. For Dieci, you can call to order in advance or walk (around 5mn one way). Dieci offers a student discount, where you can get any pizza of your choice and a drink for 15chf. Since you can’t eat it inside, we would recommend crossing the road and sitting next to the offices (if the weather allows it of course).

Secondly, restaurants that are a little bit further, both two tram stops away (Gare des Eaux Vives) from school are Messapia and Oh Martine. These places will require you to go back to school by tram to eat or to find a public place nearby to eat as the COVID regulations prevent people from having to eat on the spot. Messapia is an Italian deli that offers fresh homemade products. They have a variety of different kinds of pasta, vegetables and meat that changes every day. The prices vary depending on the amount you want; a small box is 8chf, and a bigger one is 15chf. They will fill the box with the amount of pasta or whatever else you choose to add. For Oh Martine, you can call to order in advance or walk in and order. They offer a wide selection of drinks, snacks and breakfast and lunch meals. Our personal favourite, the teranga salad bowl is 18.90chf, a little on the pricey side, but it is worth it as it is a large portion.

Lastly, situated just across from the old Roches tram stop, you can find Lemongrass and Crêperie Le Douze. Lemongrass is a Thai takeaway restaurant, where you can find an array of curries, spring rolls and pad thai, our personal favourite. The prices vary from 10chf to 15chf for a fairly generous portion of food. In case you’re still a bit hungry after you can also get an extra spring roll or satay skewer for 2.50chf. To eat your lunch, you can go to the benches in front of the Gare des Eaux Vives or, if it’s raining, you go inside the station itself. Crêperie Le Douze is right next to Lemongrass, and as you can infer from the title, sells crêpes and galettes de sarrasin. They have a wide selection of toppings for very fair prices. The crêpes are very fresh and prepared on the spot. As you wait for your order, you’re offered a glass of fresh apple juice on the house!

In conclusion, there are multiple restaurants which respect the measures put in place and also offer yummy food!
