LGB Interviews: Chloé Sautereau

By Lea Barry

Born and raised in Switzerland to a  Brazilian and French family, Chloé Sautereau, age 16, (year 11) has been singing for as long as she can remember. Whether it being in a musical, with the school band or at home. She has been attending LGB for 5 years. Chloé has always had a passion for singing, however, she only took singing lessons last year. She recently released two singles that she wrote herself and performed at school events such as the talent show.

Q: Is there anyone or anything in particular that inspired you to write your own songs?

A: Up until last summer, I had tried writing songs but nothing really stuck. This summer, I began with strumming on my guitar and improvising and everything fell into place. It’s really fun and fulfilling, when the pieces come together.

I don’t think there is one specific meaning behind every single word in my songs. Of course my experiences and surroundings affect my songs indirectly. My songs aren’t necessarily all thought through from the beginning but are derived from what I am feeling at that time. My emotions influence the words, the melody, the intensity, the tempo of the music and those are always changing. Music helps you figure out what you’re feeling.

Q: Can you tell us a little about how you decided to release the two singles?

A: When I started writing my songs this past summer, my family and friends were incredibly supportive. Funnily enough the whole recording thing started with my parents looking for a Christmas gift for me. I have a microphone and small portable booth which I can use to record songs and everything but a studio recording session sounded incredible to me. So my first song “Beautiful Games”, which I recorded at the start of December 2016, was my early Christmas present. It was such an amazing experience; we had an incredible team (producer, musicians, etc).  Since then I’ve been continuing to write more songs. In February my parents and I decided to record a new one called “Tell Me” which I released in February. I’m really happy that I’ve been able to share my songs, and I feel blessed for all the great feedback I’ve received. I hope I can record another song soon because despite the hard work, it truly is a blast!

Q: Has there been any time when you’ve wanted to quit singing and what kept you from doing that?

A: There never really has been such a time for me because singing sort of comes instinctively. I sing and play music with passion and as for now, I don’t have many obligations coming with it. I don’t really see it as something I can quit or not. It just happens and I keep going. The people around me have always been very supportive and appreciative of what I do which is a true source of motivation.

Q: Are you planning on continuing your singing in the future?

A: As long as nothing gets in the way of it then yes! If I could make a career out of it, it would be a dream come true, but I am nonetheless fully aware, that it’s an awfully complicated industry, like many others. As much as I want it and I’ll keep working for it, I still have an open mind and an interest in many other things. And no matter what, I’ll keep on doing it for fun at least!

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is considering taking their singing more seriously?

A: It has to come from the heart. Depending to what extent you mean to take it, it doesn’t have to be an immense investment. It does take a lot of time but you can start by doing it for yourself and then go from there. The most important thing is that it’s genuine. Some people may need more motivation than others however if you’re truly meant to sing, you’ll sing.
