Growing up we hear stories from all around the world and watch movies and shows depicting traditions and culture about Western countries. But other places aren’t put forward as much, creating some hazy areas surrounding other cultures, such as China for example.
China is often described in a negative way by teenagers with many prejudiced opinions. Some make jokes or only see China’s negative past and others just have an unpleasant image stuck inside their heads, which makes people forget about the people, the rich culture, the food, the history and many other aspects of what make China such a diverse
and a remarkable country.
China is one of the oldest civilizations with an abundant history which spans from over 5,000 years ago, with many dynasties bringing forward different styles, traditions and stories that lack representation and appreciation. Both Taoism and Confucianism impacted China in many ways, and left a mark on Asia’s philosophical and social habits.
China has many stories like “The Legend Of Chang’e” or “The Monkey King”, which are both very famous myths passed down from generations to others. Today, they are both still celebrated and widely spread around the country, as they are a part of China’s roots.
Everyday life in China is lively and exciting, as the bustling cities are so full of life and there is always something new to discover with others. Although it can be a bit overwhelming, it is all part of the country’s personality and charm. Additionally, China’s culture and past is very vibrant and it has heavily helped advance the country. Upon arrival, China seems like another world with technology and urban sights being so modern. The flashing lights and animated billboards add to the charm of the populated cities but also heavily contrast with the peaceful countrysides. China’s green belt and nature is a great way to unwind and discover a different part of the area. The many temples and breathtaking forests are part of the many unavoidable things to see.
Food is also a big part of life and culture in China. Eating and cooking are a strong way of expressing love. Families gather to share a meal and the process before is like a ritual, the kitchen becomes a sacred space for everyone. Many dishes mix sweetness, spice and sourness. The ingredients used in dishes vary a lot with numerous vegetables, meats, and spices. Some traditional dishes are Peking duck, dumplings, and Bao zi.
To conclude, China may seem like a very distant place, but it is such a welcoming country and an amazing place to explore, filled with much charm and so many places and traditions to discover along the way.
