By Chonghwa Lee, Year 12
“Beauty and the Beast”, originally written in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve, will be performed on December 5, 2025, at the International School in Ecolint. The production is directed by Mr. Daffyd White, and the music director is Mr. John Marc Davies. The costumes and props for the show have been creatively designed and crafted by the students themselves.
The story is much more complex and longer than the modern Disney version. The musical is about the main character, Bell, a kind, careful, and lovely girl who wants to break the powerful curse the beast has. Rather than only showing the magical scenes, it contains deep lessons: virtue, kindness, inner beauty, and the transformative power of love.
I got an interview with one of the ensembles, Rebecca. At first, she auditioned for Belle. Sadly, she got the role for the ensemble, but she is really enjoying her role and her high assigned vocal pitch. Thus, she doubts that the audience will think her singing skills will be sufficient.
Another interview that I got was from Kameron, Lefou. On the show, Lefou is depicted as a really funny and goofy character, and one of his friends is called Gaston, the show’s villain. Kamreon chose this character because he likes to act as a funny character. He wants to tell the audience to come to the show and laugh a lot, and have fun!
We invite you to join us on December 5th for the magical event brought to life by our talented students.
