Autumn 2025: the new fashion trends

By Noor Khan Mallach, Y11

Autumn, the beloved season of falling leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and Gilmore girls. The time has finally come for cute outfits and coffee runs to Luke’s, but what should I wear? Lets take a look at the runways and the socials for some inspo.

Let’s start with perhaps the biggest trend right now: Fur. From coats to hats all the way to gloves, fur is being quickly added to everyone’s closet due to its practicality and stylish look. Good quality faux fur gives a luxurious and elevated feel to an outfit and can be quite warm depending on the type of item. Real fur as well is also coming back, with more and more people opting to spend a pretty penny on a piece that will last a lifetime, although some complain about the ethical issues concerning how the fur is collected. Fur often comes in the shape of collars on warm puffers or as a full vest/coat that can be paired with so many different outfits. For a comfy but put together outfit idea:  a pair of dark denim jeans, a basic sneaker or pair of boots (like Ugg boots or a leather bootie) with a turtleneck, a messy bun, and a fur vest.

Another major trend right now is thick scarves. While scarves have been present for a while now, they have now evolved into thicker, often patterned scarves, such as shawls made out of wool or cashmere. The style has changed drastically from the skinny scarves of the 2000’s to a thick long, actually useful, scarf worn nowadays. Not only are these scarves effective for the cold, but they are also quite versatile, being able to be paired with some jeans just as well as with a formal dress, for example. For an everyday outfit to run errands, go out, to work, or school, try pairing some loose-fitting jeans with a thick sweater (bonus points if its knit), some sneakers, a matching scarf with a comfy tote.

The third, and last trend, is chunky cardigans. In the last year or so, cardigans have come back into fashion with full force, but with a slight variation. This autumn season has proved that specifically thick, chunky knit sweaters are back in. While they might change in shape or length depending on the consumer’s taste, they are often either with bottoms or belted (if long) and in funky colors or with interesting patterns. They are definitely not all versatile and part of someone’s capsule closets, but they definitely make a statement! An idea for a stylish look could be to pair a neutral pair of soft, comfy pants (maybe cashmere or wool) with a neutral long sleeve, a matching pair of ballet flats, and a cardigan.

There are so many more trends this season, but these are perhaps the most popular so far. In general, it seems that the sort of homeless style, with tracksuits being everywhere, has disappeared this year & the old money trend is in. Fur, scarves, and big cardigans have come in and we should see them throughout the season. Have a good fall and see you later!
