On 1 December 2025, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray renewed their legendary rivalry in the Süper Lig under the bright lights of Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. As expected of Turkish football’s fiercest derby, the contest delivered tension, passion, and late drama, ending in a hard-fought 1–1 draw.
Galatasaray Strikes First
The opening stages were cagey, with both teams prioritising discipline over risk. The deadlock was finally broken in the 27th minute when Galatasaray’s Leroy Sané produced a moment of quality. Driving into the box, he struck low toward goal, and with the help of a slight deflection, the ball nestled into the net. The visitors carried a 1–0 advantage into the interval.
Despite trailing, Fenerbahçe were the more dominant side in possession, controlling around 56% of the ball and registering 17 shots compared to Galatasaray’s six. However, that dominance rarely translated into clear cut chances, as the home side struggled to trouble the goalkeeper with meaningful efforts on target.

In the 90+5th minute, substitute Jhon Durán became the hero for Fenerbahçe. Rising above the defence to meet a left-wing cross, he powered a header beyond the goalkeeper and into the net. The stadium erupted as the hosts snatched an equaliser at the death, rescuing a crucial point.
The draw keeps the Süper Lig title race on a knife-edge. Galatasaray remain top with 33 points, just one ahead of second-placed Fenerbahçe on 32. For Fenerbahçe, the match yet again highlighted a recurring issue: possession and pressure alone do not always bring results, especially in derby fixtures charged with emotion and nerves. Meanwhile, Galatasaray will feel frustrated at letting victory slip so late after displaying strong defensive discipline and clinical attacking in the first half.
