The Beauty and the Beast: the After Show Review

By Nassim Hariss, Year 11

This year’s school musical, Beauty and the Beast, was a truly special event that filled the auditorium with excitement and emotion. Students from different grades worked for weeks to prepare, and their hard work has clearly paid off. From the singing and acting to the music, props, and backstage, every part of the show clocked in to create an enchanting environment.

One of the biggest highlights of the night was Diego’s performance as the Beast. His singing especially communicated deep emotions and was extremely eloquent. During the dramatic scenes, he managed to show both aspects of the beast’s personality: his kindness and his ferocity, which made his character feel truly real. Many of my peers agreed that his voice was absolutely incredible. He truly impressed everyone, especially in his singing (even though he was sick, which sounds insane!).

The chorus also did an amazing job. Their voices blended perfectly, whether they were singing in the background or performing group songs. They helped bring scenes to life, like the village scene, but also added tension and atmosphere to every moment of the musical. Their harmonies were perfect and still felt like they were in parallel with the main actors, which made the show feel real.

The violinists added even more magic to the performance. Their music played over the singing, making dramatic scenes even more dramatic. In moments of tension or excitement, the violins helped instill the mood and truly put the audience in the setting. Their playing was smooth and varied, and many people mentioned afterward how beautiful the background music sounded.

Another impressive part of the show was the props and set design. Everything from the enchanted rose to the castle decorations was made incredibly well. The props looked amazing both up close and from far away, and they helped transform the stage into the magical world of the story. It was clear that a lot of effort went into making the sets realistic.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the backstage crew. They handled scene changes, costumes, lighting, and all the small details. We know they did an amazing job, as we could barely see them. They were necessary for the show to be as seamless as it was, even if we don’t always realise this.

Overall, our school’s Beauty and the Beast musical was a wonderful success and a great example of what students can achieve when they work together.
