During the evening of Tuesday the 13th of January there was the vernissage of a new art
exhibition in the Centre des Arts at La Grande Boissière campus.
The exhibition itself will last until the 28 th of January, meaning that anyone who wasn’t able
to make it to the vernissage will still be lucky enough to see the artworks if they wish.
Now this exhibition is different compared to previous ones as the artworks are carefully
displayed all over the building and the latter involves multiple artists. There are teachers
from the LGB and Nations campus who participated, also several alumni and even some
other members of staff and parents who enjoy doing art. Many of them are growing artists
and the opportunity to participate in this exhibit will greatly help them.
Some artists have lots of pieces on display, others only one or two but there is a great
diversity and contrast in between each piece and the style of its artist. Some paintings are
abstract, others more modern there is even some still life and portraits. This shows how
despite all the changes happening in the world, art is still a universal language; a way to
express oneself and to show emotions in a different manner.
The most interesting part of this exhibition I think is the variety of the works and the way
they are displayed. In only a few steps you can be travelling through lots of different worlds,
backgrounds, styles and lives. The location of each artwork was carefully thought out by the
curator: Dr Momar Seck, the head of Arts.
During the vernissage all the individual artists came to show and explain their artwork to the
viewers. They spent hours discussing the techniques involved and comparing their styles.
Many of their friends, relations and even just people from across the campuses came to
share this experience and appreciate the presence of the artists. Some walk around for only
a few minutes, others spent hours there, touring the building, analysing each individual
piece. But despite the amount of time spent, they were still able to share the same
experience and the same emotions.
This exhibition therefore not only represents a group of artists in the school but also the
wider community of very talented artists that plays a very important role behind the scenes
to contribute to the art life of the school.
I greatly enjoyed the exhibition and would recommend that if you are passing by the art
centre you should drop by and have a look at all the masterpieces that are being displayed
for yourself. Even if you don’t have much time, and are just passing through, you wil still be
able to see some beautiful artwork wherever you are in the building!
