By Henning Mueller, Year 12
Eileen Gu is already known as an Olympic champion in freestyle skiing,
but what makes her even more impressive is everything else she manages
to do at the same time. She studies at Stanford University and plans
to major in physics, which is not an easy subject. On top of that, she
works as a model and competes at the highest level in her sport.
What stands out the most is how she handles her schedule. With
training, competitions, schoolwork, and media responsibilities, her
days must be extremely full. Yet she has said that she aims to sleep
around ten hours a night. That is surprising because many students
think that sleeping less means working harder. She shows the opposite.
She understands that rest helps her perform better, think clearly, and
stay focused.
Another reason she is inspiring is how she deals with pressure. She
has faced criticism and backlash, especially from people in America
who questioned her decisions about which country to represent. Instead
of responding with anger or getting distracted, she continues to focus
on her goals. She trains, competes, and wins gold medals. She lets her
performance speak for itself.
Eileen Gu’s life may seem extraordinary, but what makes her inspiring
is not just her talent. It is her discipline, her confidence, and the
way she stays focused on herself despite outside noise. She proves
that you can aim high in more than one area, take care of yourself,
and still succeed at the highest level.
