This Sunday, the 25th of November, LGB hosted its annual Winter Market held in the Centre des Arts. Many vendors and stallholders at the event had the opportunity to sell their products, including this year’s India team. From games to baked goods, each of the 18 members were at the Market for several hours to help fundraise for the trip to India, which will take place in April for two weeks.
Three of the various activities we organized were games, henna tattoos, and cookie decorating. The games and the henna were set up in the garderie, where 2 members of the team were always present in order to engage with the kids and beautify their hands with henna, as an homage to Indian tradition. Cookie decorating was held in the arts and crafts room where kids had the opportunity to express their creativity through their love of sugar. Parents had the chance to catch a break while we kept them entertained and happy.
At the official India Team stand, part of the team sold goods such as donated jewelry, mason jar cookies and brigadeiros, homemade by our very own members. There were also woven basket candles, bags, and various knicknacks available for purchase, as well as bed sheets and pillow cases made by the children who we help in India.
All of the money fundraised, as well as the donations we received, will go to the fund for the India Project, not only for our trip there but for various projects to improve the lives of the children in India, such as cookstoves in their homes and renovations in their schools. This year’s team worked hard to gain more money at the Winter Market than any other team in the past and accomplished this by a landslide!
