Electric cars are the future – Geneva Motor Show 2024

By Ryan Francis, Year 12

The highly anticipated Geneva Motor Show is an important moment in the automotive industry on the path to sustainability and innovation. Held here in Geneva, the event showcased a variety of electric models, marking a clear shift from traditional combustion engines and underlining a commitment to environmental responsibility.

One of the highlights of the 2024 Geneva Motor Show was the absence of many European cars, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. These famous names usually attract great attention in such programs. However, their presence has decreased this year, indicating an expansion in the number of brands in the industry. Although the reason for their absence is not clearly stated, it indicates a change in the core business of the manufacturing companies. Although not like the other big, traditional European fairs, the fair continues to be a fine showcase of innovation and creativity from other companies, particularly those focusing on electric vehicles and long-term solutions. From stylish sedans to powerful SUVs and futuristic concept cars, the showroom is filled with the latest developments in electric vehicles.

To celebrate the anniversary of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) as a world event, the ‘100 Cars’ ‘Icon of the Year’ exhibition paid tribute to 40 truly legendary cars that left their mark on automotive history and captured the attention of motorist enthusiasts from all over the world. Notable cars include classics that appeared at the Geneva Motor Show over last century, including the venerable Jaguar E-type 9600 HP, the timeless Porsche 901 “Quick Blue” and the venerable Ferrari 500 Superfast.

One of the most noteworthy highlights of the event was the assembly of Bugatti Royale 41.111, the ultimate winner in terms of automotive luxury and performance excellence. For the first time in automotive history, two versions of the Bugatti Royale 41.111 were displayed alongside the famous Roadster Esders and the venerable Coupé de Ville Binder, offering visitors a rare opportunity to view the rich history of automotive masterpieces.
